Biotech pharmaceuticals are being tested and new drugs being developed everyday. There are many incurable diseases being researched such as cancer, leukemia, and more. Obesity is not a disease, but it is a problem among many people today and is increasing in women at younger ages. Breakthrough biotech pharmaceuticals currently exist and could provide solutions against the rampant problems of obesity.

According the U.S. Center for Disease Control, approximately 25 million women under the age of 54 suffer from obesity. Thousands of people die every year from obesity. Obesity also accounts for over $115 million in health care expenses each year. The development of an anti-obesity pharmaceutical drug for women ages 50 or less is strongly supported. Not only will a weight loss pill improve the quality of lives of millions of women, but it will save many lives as well. This will allow many women to enjoy how they look and enjoy being mobile and live a healthier life as a result.

The Tel Aviv University has developed a new drug called Histalean, which is based on betahistine. Betahistine is used to block the certain receptors in the brain that give someone the sense of being full. It removes the desire to eat fatty foods. Histalean is a re-purposed pill and has been found to kill the desire to eat fatty foods. It is showing to be most successful with women.

In a recent clinical trial involving 281 men and women, no one complained of any serious or harmful side effects. In 12 weeks time of taking the Histalean, women under the age of 50 lost 7 times the weight of those women taking the placebo pills. The pill was more successful in assisting women lose weight than with the men.

Histalean is believed to be a major breakthrough because it does not have the suicidal and depression side effects that many other weight loss drugs do.

Biotech pharmaceuticals and Histalean specifically could eventually change the lives of women all over the world if they are approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
